Uncoated Uncovered

The project was directed by Mervil Paylor, Mervil Paylor Design, and David Pitts, Co-owner Classic Graphics and Opus Direct. Over the past 20 years, David and Mervil have collaborated on nationally recognized projects. Five years ago they began a conversation about printing on uncoated stock. It often seemed there was a gap between the customer's expectations and the appearance of the printed piece.

David was intrigued and began to create color profiles to accurately portray (at the proofing stage) how printing would appear on an uncoated stock. It was ugly! Then Classic Graphics color technicians went to work on building color profiles that compensated for the characteristics of uncoated stock. Everyone was surprised by the results. We could now give customers a high fidelity proof that accurately depicted the results they would see on press and provide killer images on uncoated stock.

What happened in the process of discovery was amazing. The results were Uncoated Uncovered a marketing piece that leads one through the mystery of uncoated color profiling while challenging one to discover "WHODUNIT?" in a thriller set in 1940's England.
